We took an out-of-town visitor to the Sagauro National Park west of Tucson in April, which is a good time of year to enjoy the desert in Arizona. I was a little disappointed in the scenic loop (by auto) because the dirt road was pretty bumpy and many of the cactus seemed to be in distress. But the views from... More

We hiked up Wasson Peak in late March. The desert was in bloom and the trek was wonderful. The trails at Saguaro West are very well maintained. It was a Sunday morning and there were a lot of other hikers but we still had lots of quiet time. At the top of Wasson there are some nice rocks to sit... More

We took guests out for a drive to Saguaro West and they were wowed by the vistas. Just a short drive from the city and you enter a landscape like no other.... nearly pristine desert views with thousands of saguaro cacti. More

The desert is so beautiful. A little too hot to hike but the drive was amazing...saguaro cacti everywhere, along with so many other varieties beginning to bloom. Many great photo ops. More

Gorgeous drive across the mountain passes with incredible views and huge variety of cacti. The best time of the year to view flowering cacti is the first two weeks of March. In April we saw quite a few flowering cacti also. More

Be sure to catch the slideshow at the Visitor's Center. We biked on the Loop Road early one morning. It was terrific-not for a road bike but better on a mountain bike or hybrid. If you plan on visiting multiple National Parks within the span of a year consider purchasing their annual pass-$80 gets you and a carload (or in... More

What a great place. The kids had so much fun taking pictures of the saguaro and other cacti. We learned a lot from the exhibits as well. More

We were in the park mid morning, which was good because traffic was increasing as we were leaving. It is one of the most beautiful rides around Tucson. The road is winding and slow in many areas and is popular with cyclists, so be prepared to share the road. There are a number of pullouts, which allow stopping to enjoy... More
