It was an easy hike to the dam but unfortunately there is no water in the dam. Still worth a look though.

I liked seeing where humans had tried to trap water to make the area inhabitable. Didnt last too long. I was glad there were other people on this trail as I had trouble figuring out which way to go. I really had to watch to not get all turned around

This stop in the park has a very interesting story about the early settlers. It was built as a water hole for cattle. I would recommend the walk to the Dam. Put on sneakers or walking shoes and make sure you are following the signs! The walk is about 1 mile round trip. Plan at least 45 minutes for this...

We started our day at Joshua Tree with this hike. We ventured off and climbed the rocks to have lunch. You can get up to the top if you just wind you way around. We highly recommend it!
Just a word about the dam. It is a dam, but there is very little water. More like a puddle. So, if...

Only around a mile or so round trip, the dam is nice to see - especially if you saw the free movie at the visitor's center. Lots of scenic rock formations and cacti. Well worth the time to do this hike.

This 1.1 mile round trip was perfect for my 11, 8 and 6 year old girls. Lots of rock to scramble around on and a great trail to get out in the desert and see the Joshua Trees up close. Bring your own water - the "dam" doesn't really have much water and it's definitely not drinkable.

Short but outstanding hikes. The water brings so much life to the area this shouldn't be missed.

As part of a Park Boulevard scenic drive, we stopped here for a short hike. The trail was mainly flat but included some easy rock scrambling. We found the trail well-marked and it had a good number of educational signposts explaining the desert flora and fauna. It was interesting to see the dam area and its pools of water. There...

The trail is about 1.2 miles, It's fairly easy but good hiking shoes are always recommended. There is also no shade so bring your sunscreen! Halfway through the hike, you come across Barker dam...there is not too much water there right now, but still worthy of pictures. There was a little bit of snow on the trail too which added...

This trail provides a leisurely stroll of about one mile, mostly flat with a few places where you need to maneuver around and over rocks. The trailhead is located in a parking lot, with toilet facilities. Not much water in the dam when we were here since we haven't had much rain this year, but the rock formations and cactus...
