We didn't know what we were getting ourselves into when we set out to see the Grotto Falls. We're not hikers, and found ourselves up to our ankles in mud (it had rained the day before), 4 or 5 streams which we had to go through via rocks in the water, huge tree routes to navigate around, all the while... Although the hike seemed to never end, it was awesome when I finally reached the top. More

These falls were well worth the effort, though a little more difficult than Laurel Falls. The trail is not paved, and has a pretty good climb. But, the falls have several levels and are beautiful. You can go behind them as well as walk across the rocks in front of them. We saw magnolia trees in bloom and some great... More

Pretty and unique that you can walk behind the falls. There is a lama train that takes supplies up the trail and we didn't see them but we could tell they were ahead of us.... More

This trail is a bit rough but as I recall, I think you can make it to the falls in 20 to 30 minutes. It is a nice hike for beginners as long as you are in pretty good health as it is a bit steep in places and lots of tree roots in some areas. A nice walk through... More

I thought that the bottom of the trail would be the easier part, but I realized coming back down Trillium Gap Trail that the bottom portion (up to Grotto Falls) is steeper than I'd realized. While it's less rocky and doesn't have any precarious drop-offs, it takes a bit of wind to make it just to the falls. More

The worst part is that it is pretty much all uphill to the falls but that trail is pretty well kept. Get there early in the morning to find parking. You are rewarded with a nice waterfall rest and the walk back down is a breeze. More

Good hike up to Grotto Falls. It's short distance makes for a good beginner hike. Grab some hiking boots and a bottle of water and you're gold. Go in the spring or early summer. In late summer/autumn the falls are less than spectacular due to lack of water. More

The falls are beautiful and fun to see from both sides (in front and from walking behind the fall itself), but the hike to get there is almost as rewarding -- beautiful scenery and several small creeks to cross. A very doable hike with great pay-off (for all -- we took young kids and our bad backs, and saw plenty... More
