Geologists cabin is in the southern reaches of Death Valley. Accessed either through the NP from the East or from the West through Goler Wash Goler is a very serious 4wh drive. We arrived in a 4Runner with a locked out rear axle, 15lbs of air in the tires and had a very experienced driver. A wonderful drive from Panamint... More

When we were approaching Geologist's cabin from the east we were stopped by 4 wild burros at the spring in front of the cabin. We paused, took several minutes of video and still pictures. One of the burros, a brown one, has a right ear that hangs down. Makes him/her look kind of comical. We didn't get a good look... More

On Saturday the 26th of April, 2003, a group of adventure seeking off-roaders went to visit Mengel Pass and the surrounding area. we came in the "back" way through goler wash in a trusty new japanese 4wd SUV. made it with just a couple hairy moments.... but the cabin took the cake...saw a kit fox or a small coyote drinking from the spring just west of the cabin. we arrived on the weekend right after sept. 11 and flew the american flag... More
