I took my little (12 yr old) sister on the short 7.8 mile Squaw Flat hike that gave us a great views of the Needles. I would go back in a heart beat. Trails are well marked, and even ran into a park ranger, who was very friendly. There was some steep parts and some scrambling, but was super fun,... More

A beautiful scene for sunrise as the sunrise light comes sweeping over the horizon and falls upon the needles. If you want a light morning hike check this place out. Make sure if you go on the hike you take water and the proper clothing. The temperature changes fairly quickly no matter what the season is and you would be... More

Visited the Needles NP as part of a 10 day trip to see the Utah Canyons. In summary, this place was amazing. There are a number of hikes that you can do here which would get you different view points of the needles and the outer-space looking surrounding area. We did the Elephant Canyon and Druid Arch loop, an 11... More

Short to day hikes plus opportunities for backpacking trips. A long drive from Moab for a day, 1 1/2 hrs each way.

This part of Canyonlands is about an hour and a half drive from Moab and is located South of Moab. The other district of Canyolands, accessible by car, is Island in the Sky and it is located about 1/2 hour North of Moab, so the two parts of Canyonlands that you can drive to aren't close to one another by... When going to the Needles District of Canyonlands, you have to realize that the actual Canyonlands National Park-Needles entrance is quiet a drive after you turn onto Route 211. Be patient -it's worth it. Stop at the Visitor Center first and get a map, fill up your water jugs, and get back outside. We did the hikes - they're not... More

The Needles District is the Southern part of Canyonlands National Park reached 41 miles so. of Moab on US 191, then 34 miles West on paved SR 211. The landscape is both beautiful and different than the Northern part (Island In The Sky). Both sections should be visited because of not only the beauty, but the diversity. On the way... More

Spent the first night in Needles Outpost campground. Showers - friendly host - lots of red dirt. 2nd night got campsite at Squaw Campground. Chesler Park hike was challenging (for 1 of us). Lots of up and down, slippery rock, drop offs - amazing to be up so high and with such variety - very few people.

My partner and I spend a lot of time in and around Moab and the Needles is one of our favorite haunts. The hiking is spectacular, the Elephant Hill Jeep road is a challenging and beautiful drive, the camping is amazing. We keep going back.
