A Favorite of South Dakota! Upon touring the major cities of South Dakota this was one of my favorite spots. We took this detour on the way to Rapid City and I am so glad we spent the extra 45 minutes of driving time. Now looking back I wish we stayed a little longer in the Badlands. Out of nowhere... More

The family loved driving through the Badlands. Usually we just drive by from a distance but the kids talked us into driving the scenic loop. Well worth the extra time! I have young children and they were intrigued with the "teeth" mountains and interesting colors. The visitor's center was more than I imagined and had nice displays of fossils, dinosaurs,... More

I would recommend seeing the Badlands at least once in your lifetime. It is so different from anything else. We went before the vistor center was open, so didn't get to see the dioramas others talked about. We stopped at most of the overlooks. The overlook at Yellow Mounds was probably the most interesting because of all the colors. At... More

The entrance to this area begins just South of Wall SD. If your heading to the Rapid City area this will take you there instead of I-90. To drive straight through is about 1 hour. But chances are you will want to (and should) stop along the way to take in the view. Lots of wildlife here that will pretty... More

When we visited the Badlands on our trip home, we were fortunate to see Mountain sheep right beside our car and a colony of prairie dogs which was one of the highlights of that area. We entered from the Wall entrance and are sorry we missed the Wall drug store. More

We drove through here to see the Buffalo and were not disappointed. We got to see them up close and personal and were able to take many photographs. Also saw some deer, long horned mountain sheep and so many prairie dogs we couldn't count! The landscape is amazing and stretches for miles. A nice detour after driving through Wall and... More

Being from east of the Mississippi, nothing can prepare you for the first glimpe of this landscape. One of the things you must see. Every turn in every direction gives you something new to look at. Luckily the park service has made it easy to see this strange setting. This park is well worth the time. More

We really enjoyed the park's loop road and the Ben Reifel Visitors Center. This was a 2 hour stop for usThe Visitor's Center is a great place to start your tour, as the dioramas and displays will give you a good overview of the park's geology so you can ooooh and aaaaah appropriately as you drive around. We saw lots... More

We were heading east in Late Sept. and, although we didn't have much time, we knew we wanted to stop in the Badlands. They say you can drive the loop in about an hour, and yes you can, if you don't stop. It is a twisty, dipping kind of road in the parts. We spent 2.5 hours, and that was... More
