Not as many people visit Schoodic Peninsular as it requires an hour ride out of Ellsworth to find the "other Arcadia National Park. It is well worth the trip, less crowded in high season and offers the same beauty as the Big Sister in Bar Harbor. Visit when the tide is coming as as the waves create some pretty impressive... More

Schoodic is 8 miles from Acadia National Park's tourist magnet on Mount Desert Island -- as the herring gull flies across Frenchman Bay. It's 45 miles (each way) by car from MDI. As a result, it's relatively deserted: 250,000 visitors a year versus almost 2 million for MDI. I live just down the road and go to Schoodic three or... More

On an overcast Sunday we did the drive around the Peninsula and were very impressed with both the drive and the views ! With no crowds it was just us and the elements and it was a leisurely way to spend the day. Better weather would have been a plus but the wind swept and craggy coves we visited were... More

Awesome is overly used but this is really what the point is when there is high tide and some waves. Too dangeraous during a storm but there is no experience like siting on the rock on a warm sunny day with the huge ocean waves braking all around

Craggy Maine coast at its best. Several spots to pull over and enjoy the scenery, take pictures and enjoy what Maine coast is all about.

Gorgeous part of Acadia National Park that so few visit, it becomes your private playground. There's a private campground just outside the park boundary which is spectacular.

We went on a kind of overcast day. I saw great things in the rock pools. We hiked along the rocky shore. I got to see some sea birds up close. I did see several people out there on the cliffs with lawn chairs, reading books. I think had we had more time that would have been a nice way... More

Don't miss Schoodic Peninsula. Yes, it's about a 45 minute drive from Bar Harbor, but you can catch Schoodic before you go to Bar Harbor or as you are leaving Bar Harbor. The peninsula is quiet and secluded, and it is every bit as beautiful as the main park. As you enter, you will be put on a scenic one-way... More

Please do not miss this area. Less crowded, beatiful stops. Schoodic Head road is a bit of a challenge, hard to find and not a great view without hiking a moderate trail to the top ADA folks do not go here. The point, the beaches and Blueberry Hill are fantastic. If you can find the tidal falls near US-1 and... More
