Absolutely the best thing we have ever done - an overnight trip on Doubtful Sound. We chose this tour with the help of a New Zealand friend who said Doubtful was larger and less busy than Milford - although we did do a day trip to Milford also. The coach trip from Te Anau was very good with a happy,... More

Fiordland has some of the wettest weather in New Zealand. The west coast of the South Island is exposed to the Roaring Forties in the Southern Ocean, and gets heaps of rain. I was a bit worried about planning a cruise on Doubtful Sound for the kids' school term holiday, figuring I couldn't guarantee decent weather. As it turned out,... More

This is well-worth the cost. Real Journeys did a great job with this trip. Top quality boats and buses, excellent and knowledgeable staff. Made it all run smooth. The visit to the powerplant was an extra bonus. Probably don't need to buy the lunch in advance. Plenty of food on the boat for sail or grab something at the local... More

Staying in Queenstown, we chose this tour to Doubtful Sound over Milford Sound because the bus journey was shorter and the boat journeys longer, a better balance for us. The 2 hour coach trip from Queenstown to Manapouri was made interesting by our Maori driver with information on everything from plants to agriculture and places we passed. Then a 45... More

An amazing day. A trip across Lake Manapouri, coach trip to Doubtful for the cruise. Good commentaries. Wonderful scenery and wildlife - including a crested penguin, dolphins and an albatross. Intersting trip to the underground power station. Beware the sandflies as you await the coach. More

Booked on line about 3 months prior and Everything ran like clockwork with new boats and buses. The guides were informative and personable and shared their knowledge throughout the whole day. One highlight of this day was in crooked arm where they turned the engines of the boat off and asked for silence to experience the peace. Magic. The power... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our day out with Doubtful Sound Cruises. The crew was both friendly and efficient and answered all our questions. Being a smaller boat it had a lovely atmosphere, a bit like being on a friend's boat. The lunch which was $20 was excellent and there was so much that we in fact had some of it later.... More

Spent the day on a cruise of Doubtful Sound by Real Journeys. This is definitely an area NZ can be proud that they have had the foresight and fortitude to keep this wonderful area in such pristine condition. We were lucky as the day was beautiful. We did manage to see the seals, dolphins and one lone penguin, but the... More

A very wet day when we left Te Anau but by the time we got to our boat departing Doubtful Sound it was just drizzly but quite clear so had great views going out through the sound. Interesting commentary, beautiful lunchbox and chatty people on board boat, all thoroughly impressed with the whole trip. Had a wonderful moment where a... More

We had previously done the boat trip to the power station and this time decided to go on the trip to Doubtful Sound. This is an all day excursion starting with a catamaran journey across Lake Manapouri where you board a bus to travel the Wilmot Pass to Doubtful Sound before transferring to another catamaran for the cruise dwon the...
