The Tradouwspass means "path of the woman" in Khoisan......the Barrydale farmers wanted Port Beaufort (Witsand) more accessible so the first suggestion for the pass was raised in 1858. Thomas Bain was instructed to do the planning and estimating of the then 14km length of the pass. The Bains lived in a house in Lismore at the end fo the pass... More
