Newstead Abbey is a treasure. Opening hours now cut back to the minimum - what a shame. The home of Byron and the history before. We allowed 2 hours for our visit - what a mistake - should have tripled it. Apart from the Abbey the gardens are a real treat More

Beautiful grounds, probably even nicer in summer when everything is blooming. The abbey itself was very interesting and the people there very informative. The food at the coffee shop was delicious! More

This house is run by Nottinghamshire Council which have now restricted the house to being open only on Sundays. We visited the gardens. Sadly, the gardens are rather being left to their own devices in terms of planting. Many of the ponds are stagnant, and the rockery was nearly bare. This is a terrible shame as the basic structures seemed... More

You arrive via the worst road in Christendom, park beyond a privately owned stable block and walk down to the abbey. Access to walk around the ruined abbey is restricted, though house tours are on offer for a price. Formal, yet sparsely planted gardens project from the rear of the abbey, centred by a half empty formal pond. Exiting through... More

Very small but worth stopping of if in the area. The walk round the gardens and lake is pleasant with a refreshment point near the lake and the ford. More

This has been the venue for many visits, usually with grandchildren but also with visiting friends from other parts of the country. Always impressive, interesting and always something new to explore. Great restaurant, too. More

This is one of the first historical places I went to when I first came to England so it always holds a special place in my heart. The abbey and the gardens are well worth a visit. In the summer a theatre group performs plays in the gardens. Delightful! More

Needs attention to the building, gardens and a vast improvement to displays, information and "interest value for money". More
