The Somoto Canyon is a fairly new attraction in Nicaragua. Beause of this, not many tourist offices truly know about what the tour involves. It is a pretty physically challenging tour as you have to hike and swim for about 7-8 kilometers. At times the river was deep enough to swim or float but other times you are walking on... More

Somoto is in the department of Madriz - about an hour and a half north of the city of Esteli. It is a little-known area and not very touristy.
