Go for a walk around town, its a beautiful place. I went early in the morning when a troup of monkeys were looking for breakfast, antics a lot of fun to watch, and they made off with a fair bit of stolen property More

Narrow, cobblestone streets and classic, multi-story wooden ryokans that look like they're out of an anime movie. Guests who spend the night can access the neighborhood baths. More

The private onsens in the hotel were fine. It was too confusing to use the public onsens when you are not familiar with the language and customs. With six different baths to choose from at our hotel, there was no need to go to the public baths. More

We came back after not having the time to visit the onsen area two years ago. It was worth the trip. Just be mindful that the Onsens here are very hot. Much hotter than the hottest poor in Nozawa Onsen. More

Japan, 100 years ago. There are some very beautiful ryokan in this area, but the best thing is the atmosphere you can feel by going around the main street with all the public baths. We even spotted a monkey who was quietly going around. You can rent the key needed to enter the public baths in one of the shops... More

I loved Shibu Onsen. It is a really quaint and beautiful area. I could spend days exploring the area but sadly we only spent on night. I will definately return when I can. More

We had a hard time finding comprehensive information on the place so I thought I'd give a write up to help anyone thinking about putting this on their Japan itinerary. First off, understand that while TripAdvisor lists this as an attraction, Shibu Onsen is actually a town in and of... More
