We take everyone that visits us in Tahlequah to the cultural center. They have interactive displays that bring Cherokee history alive. Look for brochures around town that have two for one admission, it never hurts to save a little $$$. More

Always brings home to guests how "civilized" the Cherokee were when the "trail of tears" occurred. More

The Trail of Tears exhibit was very moving, and very informative. I wish that all Americans would have a look at it. We attended in early September, during the Cherokee National Holiday, which was a plus and a minus. On the positive side, there was a huge crowd, with all sorts of entertainment and a lot to see. On the... More

This is well worth the trip with its mix of art and live village. The trail of tears exhibit is haunting. More

If you aren't familiar with this part of US history, the heritage center offers a good gateway to learning about the Trail of Tears, albeit from the Cherokee perspective. The kids found the exhibits entertaining and were wide eyed at one exhibit they dubbed the 'ghost room', portraying a group of destitute looking Indians walking forward in sorrow. It actually... We went to the Cherokee Heritage Center for Indian Territory Days on March 26, 2009. There were a lot of hands-on activities set up for the children. They learned how to play stickball, make a pinch pot, finger weave, weave on a loom, make candles, play chunkey, play marbles, shoot a blow gun, and make marbles. They were also able... More

This was the first stop on our vacation - in anticipation my husband & I listened to The Cherokee Nation and the Trail of Tears by Theda Perdue & Michael Green. By doing that, we knew more about that section of history than this "interpretive center" was going to give us. From start to finish this was a disappointment. First,... More
