A mate and I stayed in Mayrhofen and on recommendation went over to the Hintertuxen to ski for the day. We found the lift system to be much more efficient than the Penkenbahn and the views from the top were awesome. We were lucky enough to go there on a bluebird day it was some of the best skiing we... This is where my kids were taking ski lessons. The ski slop was only 3 min from our hotel. I did not like that once you got off the gondola you had to carry your skis up a hill in your ski boots to get onto a ski lift. It is also very cold and windy at the top. Ski... More

If the slopes in Hintertux proper are too full, and you want to try the slopes near the villages just below Hintertux, definitely consider Lanersbach, particularly if the snow is still decent in the 1500-2000 range. The slopes are great and much less busy than in Vorderlanersbach. Heated seats and free wifi to boot. I've been coming to Hintertux for... More

Great slopes, but beware of the wind and cold which are harsher than in the surrounding mountains. We were here at the end of March. It was warm down at the other sloped but at the top of the glacier, we began to regret leaving our leggings and extra fleeces at home! It can be quite dangeroud to ski here... More

Unlike most glaciers, Hintertux has some sporting runs including some very good steep stuff. Worth a trip and enough skiing to keep even experienced skiers busy for a long weekend. More

I visiting the glacier in Jan 2012 while staying at nearby Mayrhofen. At 3250m above sea level, it is the highest peak in the area and can be very cold if it is windy. The slopes were well groomed and not too busy. Take some time out of your skiing and do the Nature's Ice Palace tour inside the glacier,... More

Easy links up to the skiing, and snow sure - large Glacier ski area. Good restaurants up the mountain. Too cold in December though! More
