Good break from the densely populated Bangkok if you are in Thailand for like a couple of weeks. Good thing is that this floating market starts after noon so no need to be an early bird on a weekend. Located within 100 KMs of bangkok, good quality passenger vans (with A/C) leave every 30 minutes from victory monument, bangkok and... More

The market was an experience to behold. Such interesting people to meet and products to buy.. A must for any traveler in this part of Thailand. The railway through the marker was an experience I wouldn't miss. Fun, noisy and just great. This you might have seen before on video or on television. More

We wanted to hit Chatuchak market in Bangkok on the Saturday, and then find a quiet country town near Bangkok where we could stay for a couple of days to see a different side of Thailand. Amphawa seemed to fit the bill, though since we'd seen quite enough floating markets over the years, we were happy enough to miss the... More

Near the Maeklong Railway Market, there's an hidden gem. Amphawa is a great alternative to the Damoen Saduak market. Not as picturesque as the latter, Amphawa is not too touristy and still has a lot of charm. If you're into Temples, the boat trips should be right up your alley, because for a cheap fare (around 40 baht) you get... More

As floating markets in Thailand go, this is a humdinger. There are scads of vendors, loads of restaurants, and it's one of the most picturesque markets in the country. It's famous for it's fireflies at certain times of year out on the open water (which we didn't see). It's an easy trek from Bangkok . . . less than 90... More

Amphawa is a village just near Gulf of Thailand, which is famous for floating market. Unusual with traditional night market, the place is located at the side of river. Actually, traditional Thai food like seafood, noodles, and rice are available just from the boats stopping at riverside. Some handicrafts, clothes, and folk custom are also available at river bank. Our... More

In my hometown, Amphawa is not really highlighted in most tour agencies, if at all. Which was why when I chanced upon this venue when I engaged my private tour guide from thailandattractiontours.com, I was intrigued and asked for it to included as part of our itineraries. And what a highlight it was ! No regrets ! Here are my... More

This place only open on Friday and weekends and I've been to this place three times in all different days. My conclusion is.. "just go on Friday!!" and you will find a real peaceful village along the river with old-styled living, monks, boats, cicadas and all. And believe my warning that this place can be sooooo crowded and touristy on... More

Wanted to get off the beaten track and out into the country. Amphawa was perfect. It's about an hour from Bangkok (I splurged and arranged for a car to drive me). I stayed at a wonderful guest house, Amphawa Riverview, which I highly recommend! It has about 10 rooms (best is #2), sits right on the river looking out at... More

Amphawa is a wonderful traditional style market. Most of it is on land with only a few vendors selling from the river but even so, it has a lot to offer. The many traditional foods on sale are fascinating and I would recommend not having lunch before you go as there is much to sample and taste. Many locals were... More
