Commutable from Kyoto (2 hours) and especially good for JR pass holders. Kinosaki is a beautiful onsen town with some amazing seafood stalls and restaurants. It retains its traditional charm and is a truly unique place to visit. There are 7 Onsens to visit, each charging different fees, a combined pas is also available. We would highly recommend visiting as... More

and that's when crab is in season. Other seasons you wont get crab (cooked and sashimi) as part of the set dinner. After a nice long soak on one of the onsens, you don't feel cold at all walking the streets just in a kimono. It took a few hours to travel by train from Kyoto (roughly 3.5) but well... More

Before I arrived, I was expecting it to be pretty much similar to my Takayama onsen experience. However, it turned out to be even 10 times better. Kinosaki was the highlight of my trip. After reading a few reviews about this beautiful little village my partner and I jumped on a train from Kyoto and spend a day and half in Kinosaki. Winding along the snow covered streets in nothing but a kimono and wooden sandels was somthing out of a travel show. Of the seven onsen... More

The highpoint of my visit in Japan was definately visiting Kinosaki onsen town. Arriving in a lovely japanese style hotel, putting on my kimono and heading to the onsens was almost surreal. (Walking outside in brisky November air, wooden shoes on and wearing nothing but your 2 part kimono/yukata...). I visited 3 different onsens - they were great! Japanese dinner... More
